3 best things about Wharton and Penn
- Growing up driving to middle school on a dirt road, I am constantly amazed by the opportunities provided by an urban setting. This year, I am taking a class IN the museum, and Philadelphia has the best food and gets the best concerts and entertainment.
- The fact that you can still get a complete liberal arts education if you want it
- That everyone is so dedicated to their clubs and extracurricular activities. It truly provides for a great sense of community.
Favorite place on campus
Probably wherever I am living at the time. Passing under the Penn sign by the hospital also never gets old.
Favorite class
Last year I enjoyed the class LGST 210, Business Ethics. I actually took it with a friend from the engineering school, as it is really applicable to any career. One of the best things about the class was that we constantly discussed real-world examples and case studies. At the end of the class, the professor even gave us the opportunity to visit a prison and discuss the experience in the context of issues we had considered during the year.
Favorite activity
If the weather is good, I like to get some Honest Tom’s Tacos (essential!) and get a game of pick-up sand volleyball going. If the weather is not as good, I like to attempt to dorm cook.
What makes Penn special
As cheesy as this sounds, the people. While obviously everyone comes from different backgrounds, Penn students share a sense of ambition and spirit about being here that carries over not only to the classroom, but also to their extracurricular and social activities.
Defining “business and more” experience
For me, the definition of “business and more” is not only being able, but actually being encouraged, to pursue minors in two areas not traditionally associated with business. Having been very involved with sustainability in high school, I was unsure if it was something I would continue in a business school. However, through classes, Sustainability Board, and programs like Green M.I., I have found that if anything, I am able to be involved at an even greater level than before.
